Writing Competition
Over the past week we have had four of our Year 5 students working on a creative story to submit for the Paper Plus Story writing competition. The four students, all girls, eagerly took up the opportunity to get their creative juices flowing. The girls worked on an initial draft of their story over a weekend and then spent a week of before school and lunchtime sessions re-crafting their writing and getting it ready for publishing.
The competition was open to all Year 5 primary school students across New Zealand, and was an opportunity for students to celebrate their imagination. Entrants who submitted a story will be in to win vouchers to spend at Paper Plus. Our students are now waiting for their stories to be reviewed by a judging panel!
Here are our 4 students hard at work during one of their lunch time sessions! Good luck girls! We'll keep posted (excuse the pun) about the outcome of their work.

Fields of Remembrance
Our school has been fortunate to have received a Fields of Remembrance kit that was provided by the Fields of Remembrance Trust. The Fields of Remembrance Trust has been established to honour those who served and fought for our nation during World War. The objective of the Fields of Remembrance Trust is to encourage and support the establishment of Fields of White Crosses around New Zealand to commemorate the soldiers who fought, and in particular the 18,200 who gave their lives in World War I. One.
Keep an eye out for what the Fields of Remembrance project will look like at WPS. Miss Raema is working hard to develop this project at our school. More information can be found out about the Trust and the project at this website: http://www.fieldsofremembrance.org.nz/Schools.html
